Recruiting Combine

The 2018 Midwest Recruiting Combine will be held on Friday,  May 4th from 7 p. to 8:30 p.m. at the Iowa Events Center, Des Moines, Iowa – In partnership with the Championship Combines.

Please note that this Combine is for female volleyball players only.

This Volleyball Recruiting Combine is a VIDEO Combine – All players/drills will be filmed and recorded.  This recording and player contact information will be sent to to every NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and Junior College Volleyball program in Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois.

In addition, the college coaches from these states will be invited to attend the combine, but because this is Finals Week at colleges/universities, college coaches may have scheduling conflicts – Once again, this will be a VIDEO combine with college coaches invited to attend.

Volleyball players will be divided by position and graduation year to allow attending college coaches to effeciently evaluate them.  4 volleyball courts will be used at the Iowa Events Center, with each court having a “court coach”, to allow players to showcase their skills sets for the college coaches. The court coaches will put the players through volleyball drills within their specific positions, along with combining positions to illustrate group skill sets.

Players WILL NOT 6 on 6 scrimmage, because scrimmages have the highest rate of injuries, and we want to avoid such occurances.

Parents are requested to stay in the Parent Zone during the Combine, per the request of the college coaches – This allows the players to focus on skills and the college coaches to focus on evaluations.  A Free Recruiting Education seminar will be available for parents during the early part of the Combine.

Tournament Information Packet

The Midwest JVA Challenge will not be printing out coaches information packets for handout at Team Check-In.  All information will be available online throughout the event.

Teams that do not check in to the tournament will be subject to a forfeit of their first match.


Player & Staff Passes

At Team Check-In, the Team Representative is issued bag tags for each player and staff member on the roster (up to 15 players and 3 staff members).  These bag tags are included as part of the Team Registration Fee – there is no extra charge for them.

  • Staff members listed on more than one roster receive only one bag tag for the event
  • All bag tags must be picked up at one time by the person checking in the team.

Coaches, please remember to issue your player’s their bag tags before you ask them to meet you inside the playing venue.  Players who do not have a bag tag will not be allowed into the playing facility.

Results and Roster Updates:

  1. Enter Results: In order to complete seeding of the event, all competition results should be entered into Advanced Event Systems by Monday, April 24 by 3:00 pm Central Time.  To enter results for your team, login to AES, click on “Teams” and click on “Results” on the respective line for each team. You can enter results manually or import the results from a different system by following the instructions found on that page.
  2. Review Your Roster: Make any necessary roster changes, additions, or deletions. No handwritten changes of any sort are allowed on the Team Roster at Check-In.  We will print rosters on Thursday, May 4 at 5:00pm.  Please have all updates completed at that time.
  3. Team & Coach Requirements: All coaches on the Team Check In Form must be, at a minimum, IMPACT certified. All adult coaches listed on the Team Check In Form must have a current background check through their Region or Junior Volleyball Association.

To expedite your team check-in process, please print your roster from Advanced Event Systems and have the bottom portion of your roster filled out when you come to team check-in.  All players participating in the event must be on the roster and may not be on multiple rosters of teams in the event.


ROSTER CHANGES MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO CHECKING IN.

Find a computer at a local hotel or print shop to make changes on a computer.

Spectator Information

Entrance to the Midwest JVA Challenge requires a guest wristband, no exceptions.

What is Stay and Save?
Stay and save is a housing assistance plan for the Midwest JVA Challenge.  To assist in the hotel arrangements for all teams that are in need of rooms for the event, the Midwest JVA Challenge has blocked rooms throughout the city of Des Moines.

Do you need to book with our Hotels?
Teams are encouraged to book their hotel rooms for the tournament at one of the tournament sponsored hotels.  When teams stay at our hotels, the economic impact of the tournament to the city is measured and rates can continue to stay as low as possible year to year when the hotels know the event brings many people from outside the city.

How does Stay and Save help my teams?
Benefits for teams from using the tournament sponsored hotels:

Lower Tournament Entry Fees
The city tracks verifiable room blocks to determine the economic value of the tournament to the local economy (the key word is “verifiable”). The higher the economic value of an event, the greater the willingness of the city to make convention center space available in the amount, at a reasonable price and on the desired dates for the tournament. This, in turn, helps to keep the costs of running the event in check and protects registration costs from major escalation year to year – for example, team entry fees for Midwest JVA have not increased at all during the time we’ve been using Stay and Save.
